Near the beginning of the war, a small refugee village was erected within the borders of the Earth Kingdom. People of the other nations who lost their homes, as well as those from Fire Nation who did not want anything to do with the war, fled to the village. Over the next hundred years, the village remained until the war finally ended. However, as the current residents were all born and raised in the village, they chose to remain in the village rather than return to their ancestral homes. Due to the village dynamics, there are only a few families in the village who are not of at least two nationalities. The most prominent family is the Líng (灵, spirit) family, one of the village's many tri-cultural families, with ancestry from all three nations comprising the village. The most notable members of the Ling family are Yu (玉, Jade)-an Earthbender and the current village elder-, Shiliu (石榴, Garnet)-a Firebender who like to cause mischeif-and Shuijing (水晶, crystal)-a Waterbender and current host of the Water Spirit.
